Newscasting Competition
Competition Description :
News Casting competition is an extraordinary competition which develops skills in reading and presenting at the same time and also in the professional ways. We challenge all of you to represent your organization or varsity to become a professional news anchor.
Competition Format :
There are 3 competition stages: Preliminary round, Semi Final Round and Final Round
Theme and Topic :
In accordance with our theme of “Heal The World: Together We Can Make The World Better“, participants will deliver relevant news that related to our theme.
Rules:
- General Rules :
- All participants should be registered 30 minutes before the competition starts.
- All participants or the representatives must attend the Technical Meeting.
- All participants are not allowed to watch the ongoing performance of other participants.
- All participants are to dress formally and accordingly.
- All participants will be called 3 times (5 seconds interval) before being considered as having walked out.
- Before the competition, contestants are brief on the rules by coordinator.
- All participants are allowed to bring supporters. Each participant is allowed to bring maximum of 5 (five) people.
- Supporters should remain silent while watching the ongoing performance.
- All participants and supporters must follow general rules of the university.
- The decisions of the judges are final
- Procedural Rules
Preliminary Round
- In the Preliminary Round, all participants will have to deliver the news and they will have to compose it.
- The news will be provided on the day of competition by the committee.
- All participants will deliver 1 (one) news which will be provided by the committee. They shall be seated when delivering the news.
- All participant will be given 15 minutes to compose their news.
- The time limit of the news delivery is 5 (five) minutes.
- An additional 30 (thirty) second period is allowed. Time extensions of more than 30 (thirty) seconds will cause three penalty.
Semi Final Round
- In the Semi Final Round, the participant will deliver weather forecast and are allowed to bring property(s) to support their performance.
- The map for the weather forecast will be given before the Semi Final Round.
- The participants have 10 (ten) minutes to prepare their performance.
- The time limit for weather forecast delivery is 5 (five) minutes.
- An additional 30 (thirty) second period is allowed. Time extensions of more than 30 (thirty) seconds will cause points penalty.
Final Round
- In the Final Round, the participant will deliver live report for a certain event.
- The topic for the live report will be given by the committee.
- The participant will be given 10 (ten) minutes to compose their script.
- The time limit for live report delivery is 5 (five) minutes.
- An additional 30 (thirty) second period is allowed. Time extensions of more than 30 (thirty) seconds will cause points penalty.
- While performing, the participant NOT ALLOWED to bring any additional notes.

- News Content and Accuracy
- Accuracy of news and data
- Quality of Data and Relevance to the Topic
- Voice
- Vocal intonation, punctuation and tone.
- Clarity of speech fluency and pronunciation
- Performance
- General appearance neat, outfit and makeup
- Gesture body language, mimic, style and eye contact
- Creativity opening , closing statement and transition
- Knowledge
- Acquiring knowledge and ethics
- Content delivery, grammar and word selections.
